Ulverston BID board seeks new members
Ulverston Business Improvement District is seeking business people from the town who are willing to join the board and help decide how to spend almost £100,000 raised each year from the BID levy.
Two years on from its foundation, the Ulverston BID has achieved a number of successes for the town including new Christmas lights, LED illumination of the Hoad Monument, support for the town’s success in Cumbria in Bloom, assisting festivals in expanding their activities, and more effective marketing of the town including a new website.
Public meeting - Thursday October 19th 2017
On Thursday October 19th, 2017, a public meeting at the Coronation Hall elected 2 new board members. The meeting also reported back on how Ulverston BID has been spending almost £100,000 it collects from businesses in the town each year, and answered questions about the operation of the BID.
The BID management board is made up of unpaid volunteers drawn from more than 450 businesses which pay the BID levy each year. Over the next 3 years one third of the board is up for election each year.
The BID board draws its members from five business categories, with 3 places on the board from each category: large business, small business, retail, hospitality, and charities & schools.
There are vacancies for new board members to represent large business, retail, charities & schools.
The constitution of the BID states that one third of the board must be re-elected or change after two years, as a way of refreshing the board and giving new people a chance to join. The board has done a fantastic job and worked diligently to ensure that the money raised from local businesses is spent wisely, but it does not have a monopoly on good ideas. The BID board needs people who are prepared to work for the benefit of Ulverston, and work with groups and organisations to make things happen.
